1 Killed, Others İnjured İn Mogadishu Car Blast

A man was killed and others injured on Saturday when a booby-trapped car went off at the center of Somali capital Mogadishu, witnesses have said.



A suicide bomber drove the car to the center of the Somali capital and exchanged fire with government troops, they added.



They noted that the suicide bomber was killed during the exchange, while some government troops were wounded.



A security source, meanwhile, said that the car was stopped at a checkpoint, but then the suicide bomber drove quickly away from the checkpoint forcing the troops to run after him.



He added that the car went off in an uninhabited area, noting that the suicide bomber was killed, while two troops were wounded.



Soon after the bombing, the militant Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab movement claimed responsibility for the attack.



The movement claimed on its website that it killed ten government troops in the attack.



Somali authorities have not officially commented on the event yet.
