Ten people, including two police officers, were killed and 20 others were injured on Thursday when a booby-trapped car exploded in the central Iraqi province of Babil, a security source said.
The source, who asked not to be named, said the car exploded near to a police checkpoint in northern Babil. Most of the injured victims are policemen.
Iraqi authorities have not officially commented on the incident yet. There was no claim of responsibility either.
Babil is one of central Iraq's most turbulent provinces. The local government says the northern parts of the province, which are close to the Iraqi capital Baghdad and the western Anbar province, serve as hideouts for Al-Qaeda militants.
Recent months have seen an uptick in violence across Iraq. Although most attacks go unclaimed, Iraqi authorities usually point the finger at Al-Qaeda-linked militants.
