15 Agricultural Workers Killed In Accident In Western Turkey

UPDATE-At least 15 agricultural workers, most of them women, were killed in a traffic accident in Turkey's western province of Manisa early Monday morning.

The incident took place near a village in the district of Gölmarmara when a pickup truck carrying a group of agricultural workers crashed into a tanker carrying milk. At least 15 people in the vehicle died at the scene, while two were injured and taken to a hospital. A number of ambulances and funeral vehicles were dispatched to the neighborhood. The driver of the tanker survived the accident.

The accident took place when a van, carrying agricultural laborers crashed with a milk tanker in Gölmarmara district. According to the first reports which were given by the local authorities that at least 15 people were killed while two were injured in the accident.

Carrying the workers, a van with 45 SA 3779 which was coming from the direction of the Çökelek villiage, located in Salihli district of Manisa crashed with milk a tanker with plate number 45 SA 3779 which coming from the direction the Haciviller neighborhood of Akhisar district.

The injured were taken to the nearby hospital.

An investigation has been launched into the accident.
