2 Skoreans Missing İn Boat Crash Near Thai Resort İsland

19.10.2014 22:33

Dozens of other tourists injured some with head trauma after collision between speedboat, fishing vessel.

A collision between a speedboat and a fishing vessel near Thailand's southern resort island of Phuket left two South Koreans missing and dozens of other tourists injured Sunday.

The Phuketwan news website reported that officials have confirmed a man and a woman from South Korea are presumed drowned following the sinking of the tourist boat.

Thai media put the number of injured people – some of whom had experienced head trauma - between 45 to dozens, with 12 receiving treatment at Vachira Phuket Hospital.

The accident occurred at around 17.30 local time (13.30 Turkish time) as the boat was returning from a trip to Phi Phi island.

It was not immediately known what had caused the collision or how the two tourists had gone missing.

The speedboat's captain has been placed under the Phuket City police's custody until his transfer to neighboring Krabi province, in whose waters the accident occurred, according to Phuketwan.

The search for those missing is ongoing and has been joined by the Royal Thai Navy.
