26 Journalists Investigated, 19 Others Face Trial In Second Quarter Of 2015

According to a report released by the Contemporary Journalists Association (ÇGD) on Sunday, investigations have been launched against 26 journalists while 19 others are standing trial in which jail terms are sought for them over in the first three months of 2015. In a press conference at the ÇDS’s Ankara branch, ÇGD announced its “Media Report” that includes figures about legal action taken against journalists in the months of April, May and June in addition to acts of censorship, physical and verbal attacks faced by journalists. Giving some figures about the press freedom violations in the past three months, Çınar Özer said in addition to new investigations and trials, trial of 61 journalists that include correspondents, managing editors, editors-in-chief continued in this period. In some of these trials, some suspects were given a fine, some were given a suspended prison sentence, some were acquitted while the trial of some was adjourned to a later date.

ÇGD report shows that 19 journalists including three foreign ones were detained while one was arrested over the past three months during which 12 instances of physical attack and insult took place against some press organizations and members.
