3 Killed İn Southern Yemen Clashes

Three people were killed and another injured on Saturday in clashes between the Yemeni army and southern separatists in the southern province of Lahij.



The Yemeni army had shelled Radfan, an area of Lahij, killing three citizens and injuring another, the separatists said in a statement.



They added that the army shelling took place after southern separatists had besieged an army camp in the area.



The separatists said clashes had erupted after the shelling between army troops and separatist gunmen.



The Yemeni army has not reported any casualties from the clashes yet.



The separatists did not clarify whether the victims were civilians or gunmen.



Southern separatist militants on Wednesday captured a military site in Radfan.



The southern separatists have strived to control military sites in southern Yemen since the country entered a new stage of turmoil a few days ago.



Yemen started a new phase of turmoil Jan. 22 when President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi submitted his resignation to parliament. The Yemeni cabinet submitted its resignation a few hours earlier.



These resignations came only a short time after Yemen's Houthis – a Shiite group with tens of thousands of followers – controlled the presidential palace in capital Sanaa.



Houthis have been controlling Sanaa for several months now.
