A female suicide bomber has blown herself up outside a state owned polytechnic in Nigeria's northwestern Kano state, leaving four people wounded, a government run anti terror information agency and eyewitnesses said Wednesday.

A female suicide bomber has blown herself up outside a state-owned polytechnic in Nigeria's northwestern Kano state, leaving four people wounded, a government-run anti-terror information agency and eyewitnesses said Wednesday.

"The female suicide bomber blew herself up about 2: 30pm today in front of Kano state polytechnic," the National Information Centre said on its Twitter account.

Police spokesman Frank Mba could not be reached for further comments on the incident.

Eyewitnesses, however, told Anadolu Agency that the attack injured four bystanders in the area.

This is the third attack involving a female suicide bomber to hit Kano in four days.

A female suicide bomber were killed on Sunday in a botched bombing attack near the Northwestern University Kano. A day later, at least four people were killed and eight others injured when a female bomber blew herself up Monday at a state-owned fuel station in the city.

There are fears among Nigerians that the Boko Haram insurgents - the primary suspect - may have brainwashing and coercing girls abducted in April to blow themselves up. However, the claim cannot be verified independently.

Nigeria has been battling Boko Haram insurgency that has started in its northeastern part five years ago.

Attacks have been reported in other parts of the country, especially in Kaduna and Kano state and the capital city Abuja, where hundreds of people were killed in the past months.
