4 Palestinian Minors Held For Jerusalem Stone-Throwing

Israeli police on Wednesday detained four Palestinian boys in occupied East Jerusalem for allegedly throwing stones at Israeli cars.



A 13-year-old boy was detained after hurling stones at Israeli cars in the Al-Tur neighborhood, damaging one of the vehicles, the police said on its official Twitter account.



Three other Palestinian boys, aged between 14 and 16, were detained for throwing rocks at Israeli police vehicles in the Beit Hanina district.



In recent months, Israeli cars and light rail trains have become frequent targets of Palestinian stone-throwers.



Israeli Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch has vowed to crack down on Palestinians caught throwing stones at trains in Jerusalem.



Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said that stone-throwing attacks in in East Jerusalem would no longer be tolerated.



Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East War. It later annexed the holy city in 1980, claiming it as the capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish state – a move never recognized by the international community.



Sacred to both Muslims and Jews, Jerusalem is home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which for Muslims represents the world's third holiest site.



Jews refer to the area as the "Temple Mount," claiming it was the site of two prominent Jewish temples in ancient times.



International law views the West Bank and East Jerusalem as "occupied territories," considering all Jewish settlement building on the land illegal.
