At least 40 killed and many more were injured in India as strong 7.9-magnitude earthquake, hit near Nepal's capital of Kathmandu, caused major tremors in North India. Earthquake which occurred before noon Saturday, causing extensive damage with toppled walls and collapsed buildings. There are reports of damage in and around Kathmandu and reportedly two casualties. Rescue teams are on the scene.
The epicenter was 80 kilometers (49 miles) northwest of Kathmandu, in Lampung, Nepal. The Kathmandu Valley is densely populated with nearly 2.5 million, with the quality of buildings often poor. According to the last report that, the death toll in Nepal has reached 500 also.
Reports of tremors came in from many parts of northern India. In Delhi and NCR region tremors were felt for a minute at 11.44 am, and after 20 minutes tremors were felt for the second time.
Tremors have reportedly been felt in Delhi, Jaipur Lucknow and various other cities of north India. People came out of their houses and office buildings in panic.
