Five people were killed and two others were critically injured after a car and a truck collided in the eastern province of Erzincan on Sunday.
The incident took place on the Erzincan-Sivas E-80 highway near the district of Refahiye when a truck driven by Mehmet Bezir carrying animals to be sacrificed for the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday collided with an oncoming car driven by Hakan Ayluç Tarhan.
Four out of the seven people in the car were killed at the scene, while one died after being brought to a hospital. Those killed were the 66-year-old Hayrettin Birdal and four children. Tarhan and an unidentified passenger were critically injured.
The two injured were sent to Erzincan Mengücek Gazi Research and Teaching Hospital for treatment. An investigation has been launched into the accident.
