Five Yemeni soldiers were killed and others wounded on Sunday in two separate, but simultaneous attacks by Al-Qaeda on two military sites in the southern Shabwah province, a military source said.
"Militants affiliated with Al-Qaeda staged two separate, but concurrent attacks, the first targeting an army site in Mayfaa city with a booby-trapped car," the source told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.
He added that this attack had left three soldiers dead behind, while the second attack, which took place in Azzan, left two other soldiers dead.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the two attacks.
Scores of security personnel have been killed in recent months in attacks, which Yemeni officials blame on Al-Qaeda.
Yemen has been dogged by turmoil since pro-democracy protests forced autocratic president Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down in 2012 after 33 years in power.
