8 Houthis Killed İn S. Yemen Attack By Pro-Hadi Tribesmen

26.04.2015 15:48

Pro Hadi tribesmen also attacked two Houthi patrols in Ataq with shells earlier on Sunday, leaving a yet to be known number of Houthis dead or injured.

Eight Houthi militants were killed on Sunday after tribal supporters of President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi attacked their site in southern Yemen's Shabwah province, a tribal source has said.

The source, requesting anonymity, told The Anadolu Agency that pro-Hadi tribesman have fired shells at a residential building where Houthi militants had been occupying in Shabwah's Ataq city.

The attack left eight Houthis militants dead, the source added.

The source added that pro-Hadi tribesmen also attacked two Houthi patrols in Ataq with shells earlier on Sunday, leaving a yet-to-be-known number of Houthis dead or injured.

Pro-Hadi tribesmen say they staged deadly attacks on several Houthi sites and patrols in Shabwah in recent days.

The Houthis, for their part, have yet to comment on Sunday's attacks.

Late last month, Saudi Arabia and several other Arab states began striking – from the air – Houthi positions across Yemen.

Saudi Arabia says the strikes come in response to appeals by Hadi – currently in Riyadh- for help against the Houthis, who overran capital Sanaa late last year and have since advanced on other provinces.

Yemen has remained in a state of turmoil since 2011 when a popular uprising forced ex-President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down a year later.
