Fifteen people died and twenty-six were injured in a migrant boat that collided with a coast guard vessel off the coast of Greece's Chios Island. The collision occurred during a chase.
The Greek Coast Guard vessel collided with a boat carrying irregular migrants during a chase off the coast of Chios Island, located east of the Aegean Sea. In a statement from the Coast Guard, it was reported that all migrants on the boat fell into the sea due to the impact of the collision, and 15 irregular migrants, including 11 men and 4 women, lost their lives, while 26 people, including 2 coast guard officers, were injured.
THERE WERE 30 PEOPLE ON THE BOAT
A senior Greek official stated in a statement to local media that the speedboat, which was reportedly used by human traffickers and had approximately 30 people on board, was detected by the coast guard vessel while trying to approach the Myrsinidi area on the eastern coast of the island to drop off its passengers. It was later learned that a chase ensued and during this time, the ship and the boat collided.
