A driver in Aksaray, who was seen driving in traffic while video calling on their phone, was fined 5,327 lira, and legal action was initiated for endangering traffic safety.
The incident occurred on April 5 on Atatürk Boulevard, the busiest street in Aksaray. The driver of the car with license plate 68 ADE 921, traveling towards the direction of the old hospital, began a video call with a friend using a phone that was wedged between the dashboard and the window. While talking to their friend for minutes, the driver continued to drive for kilometers while video calling, and picked up their phone, which had fallen, using both hands while letting go of the steering wheel.
CAPTURED BY A CELL PHONE CAMERA
The driver, who was at risk of having an accident at any moment, occasionally intervened with their hand to adjust the phone that was about to fall and continued the call. Other drivers and passengers who saw him while waiting at a red light were left in astonishment, while the driver's distracting and dangerous driving was recorded by a cell phone camera.
POLICE ACTED AFTER THE FOOTAGE
As the driver turned from Atatürk Boulevard towards Şeyhamit Neighborhood, they continued their call and disappeared from sight. Following the footage, the teams from the Aksaray Provincial Police Department's Traffic Registration and Supervision Branch acted quickly, identifying the driver as A.E. and imposing a total fine of 5,327 lira for three separate traffic violations, while it was also determined that the vehicle was uninspected. After the penalty procedures, legal action was initiated against the driver for the offense of "endangering traffic safety."
