A fire that broke out in a classroom on the ground floor of an elementary school in the Alanya district of Antalya was extinguished with the intervention of the fire department. Education was suspended today and tomorrow at the school.
FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE CLASSROOM DUE TO THE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT The fire broke out around 12:30 in the classroom on the ground floor of Kemal Şuberi Elementary School located on Kemal Şuberi Street in Güllerpınarı Neighborhood. Upon notification, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the address. With the quick intervention of the school administration and teachers, students were evacuated to the garden as a precaution. The flames were extinguished in a short time by the fire department, but damage occurred in the classroom. Medical teams provided on-site assistance to those affected by smoke. It was determined that the fire in the empty classroom during the lunch break originated from the air conditioner unit.
"ALL OUR STUDENTS WERE OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL DUE TO IT BEING LUNCH TIME" After the fire, Alanya District Governor Şakir Öner Öztürk, who came to the school for inspections, made statements to the press. Öztürk said, "Today, during lunch time, a small-scale fire occurred in one of our classrooms at Kemal Şuberi Elementary School located in the center. With the quick intervention of the school administration and our fire department, the fire was brought under control in a short time. Since it was lunch time, all our students were outside the school. During the checks, we determined that none of our students, teachers, or staff were affected by the fire. This is our greatest consolation. After the fire extinguishing efforts, necessary work will be done regarding the damaged classroom. Our district's National Education Directorate, our municipality, and our fire teams will evaluate the measures to be taken at our school, and education will resume as soon as possible. I wish a speedy recovery to all our students, parents, and school administration," he said.
EDUCATION AT THE SCHOOL SUSPENDED FOR TWO DAYS Following the fire, education was suspended for 2 days, today and tomorrow, at the school. An investigation has been initiated regarding the cause of the fire.
