THREE EARTHQUAKES IN BALIKESİR
According to information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a tremor of 4.8 magnitude was recorded at 21:58, with its epicenter in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir. It was determined that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers. Two minutes after this earthquake, another tremor of 4.2 magnitude occurred. The region was shaken again at 22:14 by an earthquake of 4.3 magnitude. The earthquakes were felt in surrounding provinces, especially in Istanbul.

In a live broadcast program he attended after the earthquake, Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz made a reassuring statement. Tüysüz stated that there is no expectation of a major earthquake in the region following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake.

Tüysüz used the following expressions: "After the 6.1 earthquake, over 4,000 aftershocks occurred. A significant portion of these were above 4. The largest earthquake was 4.6 in magnitude. With what happened this evening, we experienced the largest aftershock. Under normal conditions, aftershocks are expected to rise to just below the main earthquake's magnitude. It is natural to have aftershocks reaching up to 5.1. The unnatural thing here is that there have been aftershocks for 15 days, and they are spreading over a very wide area. This is a subject for research, and it will be revealed through detailed studies. Under normal conditions, aftershocks are expected to be on the southern side of the fault, while the broken fault is expected to be on the northern side. We see that aftershocks, which are expected to be at the ends of the fault, are spreading over a wide area. This indicates a situation related to the underground structure of this region.
"THERE IS NO NEED TO PANIC"
There is no expectation of a major earthquake in this region, and it is not expected that the fault will produce a larger earthquake after the 6.1 magnitude earthquake. Therefore, there is no need to panic. If there are damages in homes caused by aftershocks, it is advised not to enter the houses. It seems that aftershocks will continue for a long time.
