A 68-year-old man with COPD, who came to the emergency department of Horasan State Hospital in Erzurum complaining of respiratory distress, was insulted by the doctor K.Z.M., who did not provide treatment and was seen throwing a pen at the man's son. As a result, the doctor was given a penalty of suspension and was reassigned to a different position. Following the penalty, the doctor resigned from his position.
On May 16, a scandalous incident occurred at Horasan State Hospital in Erzurum, where Cumhur Tunç (68), a 95% disabled COPD patient, applied to the emergency room for oxygen therapy due to respiratory distress. Cumhur Tunç, who came to the emergency room with his young son, was questioned by Dr. K.Z.M. while filling out his paperwork, asking, 'Do you have a cough? Do you use a machine at home? Do you have chest pain? Do you have diabetes? How much do you weigh? Are you taking any medication?'
"IF YOU DON'T WANT TO ANSWER, YOU CAN WAIT"
Responding to the doctor's questions with the help of his son, Cumhur Tunç indicated that he needed oxygen with a hand gesture. Upon this, Dr. K.Z.M. said, "Uncle, I can't start your treatment without asking you questions. You need to listen to me first." Tunç replied, "I am a COPD patient. Give me air." Dr. K.Z.M. then stated, "If you don't want to answer, you can wait. What is this? Am I playing a game here? I'm telling you, 'You will wait.' I'm asking you questions, and based on that, I will start your treatment."
INSULTED
As the argument escalated, it was claimed that Dr. K.Z.M. made a gesture towards the patient and his son. When the patient's son retaliated, security personnel intervened. Later, the patient and his son were removed from the scene.
FOOTAGE EMERGED
The Tunç family filed a criminal complaint against Dr. K.Z.M. at Horasan Courthouse after the incident in the emergency room. Security camera footage related to the ongoing investigation was released. The footage captured the incident that occurred around 14:20 on May 16, and it was presented as evidence in the investigation. The footage also included moments when the doctor threw a pen at the patient's relative.
INSPECTOR ASSIGNED
After the footage was released, the Erzurum Provincial Health Directorate assigned an inspector. As a result of the investigation, the Provincial Health Directorate imposed a penalty of salary deduction on Dr. K.Z.M. and changed his duty station to the Karayazı district.
RESIGNED AFTER THE PENALTY
After the disciplinary penalty, Dr. K.Z.M. resigned from his position and left the Horasan district.
