A woman who presented to the hospital in Kahramanmaraş was found to have a tick attached to her abdominal area during the examination. After the tick was removed by a specialist dermatologist, the patient regained her health.
A woman living in Kahramanmaraş applied to the Private Sular Academy Hospital due to increasing weakness, fatigue, and various discomfort complaints in her body in recent days. During the initial examination, the healthcare team noticed redness and swelling in the abdominal area and referred the patient to the dermatology department. A detailed examination by skin diseases specialist Dr. Mehmet Alataş revealed that a tick had attached itself around the woman's navel.
NO INFECTION TRANSMITTED
After the tick was successfully removed by the specialist doctor, the patient was placed under observation. It was determined that the tick did not transmit any infection, and tests revealed that there were no serious health issues. The patient was discharged after the intervention and quickly regained her health.
"LET'S NOT REMOVE THE TICK WITH OUR HANDS"
Skin diseases specialist Dr. Mehmet Alataş stated, "Especially among the methods of protection from ticks, we need to be careful while walking in fields, gardens, and parks. We should definitely pull our socks up to the cuffs of our pants. When we get home, we should check our bodies. If a tick is attached, we should go to the nearest healthcare facility. We should not remove the tick with our hands. The tick needs to be removed using special tools like tweezers, turning it to ensure that its vomit does not spill out. The job is not finished once it is removed. The patient needs to be observed for 10 days. This is not a case we see frequently in our city, but a week ago, our patient came with complaints of shingles, and we found a tick and removed it. We took the necessary interventions. Our patient did not have Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). What is important here is to monitor the patient's blood levels, temperature, and general condition during the follow-up period after a tick bite," he said.
