According to a statement from the Berlin police, a bomb from World War II was found at a depth of 3 meters in the Spree River in the city. The statement noted that around 10,000 residents in the area were evacuated from their homes for safety reasons.
THE AREA WILL BE CLOSED TO AIR AND RIVER TRAFFIC FOR 12 HOURS
After the completion of the evacuation, it was stated in the announcement that the unexploded bomb posed no danger and would therefore be removed from the river and destroyed. It was reported that the area with a radius of approximately 500 meters where the bomb was found would be closed to land and river traffic for 12 hours.
The announcement indicated that the evacuated citizens would be able to return to their homes again.
