Veteran metal band Megadeth headlines Istanbul’s new ‘Rock Off’ festival on August 4.

Megadeth to rock Istanbul



Veteran thrash metal band Megadeth will headline Istanbul's new Rock Off festival to be held between 2-4 August.



The group is taking to the stage in Istanbul's Kucukciflik Park again after two years and will be performing on August 4.



Founded by lead guitarist and singer Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson in 1983 in Los Angeles, this influential band is seen by many as responsible for thrash metal's development and popularization. Selling almost 50 million records so far around the world, the band has released 14 albums.



Rock Off also will host Finnish band HIM and Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth.



With the help of a Turkish environmental organization – the TEMA Foundation – a memorial forest will be created by planting a tree for each person who attends the concert, said the organizers.

Turkey hosts famous French soprano, Emma Shapplin



French soprano Emma Shapplin will perform for Turkish fans in Istanbul's Harbiye Open Air Theatre on August 2.



The 40-year old soprano is expected to sing classics such as "La Notte", "Miserere Venere", "Verdi Maria", "Cuerpo Sin Alma" and "Spente le Stelle."



Shapplin started her career in classical music, although she later combined classical opera with modern pop music and her vocal style is highly operatic. Although Shapplin was raised speaking French and sings some songs in French, most of her songs are in baroque (17th century) Italian. She is currently touring to promote her latest album, "Dust of a Dandy."

Open-air cinema at Istanbul Bilgi University



Istanbul Bilgi University Santral Campus will host an open-air cinema every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between July 9 and September 6.



The U.S. film Night Moves directed by Kelly Reichardt, will be screened on August 2. 



Starred by Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsfaard, the movie tells the story of three radical environmentalists who plan to blow up a hydroelectric dam.

Istanbul's Sabanci Museum exhibits Kutlug Ataman's works



Istanbul's Sabanci Museum is commemorating the life of self-made Turkish businessman Sakip Sabanci by displaying an exhibition simply titled 'Sakip Sabanci.'



Created by well-known contemporary artist Kutlug Ataman, an artwork made from portrait photographs of thousands of people who have been in touch with Sabanci over the years will be on display; the Turkish tycoon was famous for charitable work. Around 10,000 LCD panels were used for the work.



The founder of Turkey's Sabanci Holding, he lived between 1933 and 2004. This year is the tenth anniversary of his death. According to economy magazine Forbes, he was the 147th richest man in the list of the world's top billionaires at the time of his death.

Moscow Symphony to perform in Turkey's Aegean coast



The Moscow Symphony Orchestra will perform at D-Marin Turgutreis in Turkey's southwestern province of Mugla on August 3.



Argentine tenor Jose Cura and soprano Fatma Said will accompany the Moscow Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Serget Tararin.



The orchestra will take the stage as part of the D-Marin Turgutreis International Classical Music Festival. The August 3 concert will be closing performance of the festival's 10th year.



Founded in 1989, the Moscow Symphony claims that it is the first privately funded orchestra in the Soviet period, a claim shared by the Russian National orchestra.
