A 38-year-old young man preparing for a Umrah pilgrimage in Afyonkarahisar passed away after falling ill at a private clinic where he went for flu symptoms. He experienced complications after receiving a yellow serum commonly referred to as "atom" by the public. His wife, named Mehmet Gündoğan, said, "I dressed my husband in a shroud instead of the Ihram."
In Afyonkarahisar, 38-year-old Mehmet Gündoğan, who was preparing for a pilgrimage, died after being connected to a "yellow serum" without any tests at a private clinic he visited due to flu symptoms. Songül Gündoğan, who reacted to the fact that the clinic responsible for her husband's death is still operational, is seeking justice.
FELL ILL AFTER RECEIVING YELLOW SERUM
The incident occurred on January 13 at a private clinic in the city center. According to allegations, Mehmet Gündoğan, a father of two and owner of a furniture company preparing for a pilgrimage, visited the clinic with flu symptoms. Without any tests being conducted, Gündoğan was connected to a yellow serum. However, as the serum was nearing its end, Gündoğan reported difficulty breathing and fell ill.
DIED IN INTENSIVE CARE
Subsequently, it is claimed that the clinic staff could not intervene. About 10 minutes later, Gündoğan's friend, who accompanied him, called the 112 Emergency Call Center for help upon seeing Gündoğan's condition. Gündoğan was taken to Afyonkarahisar State Hospital by ambulance after the report. Following intervention, he was placed in intensive care. However, Gündoğan could not hold on to life and passed away after 20 hours in intensive care.
"THEY GAVE SERUM WITHOUT TESTING"
The grieving wife of the unfortunate man, Songül Gündoğan, noted that her husband was given serum without any tests, stating, "The yellow serum unfortunately took my husband from me in just 20 hours. The day before, he went to the State Hospital and was sent home with a throat spray and painkillers. My husband wanted to recover quickly because we were going to pilgrimage. We were preparing for pilgrimage. He had heard about this place and went to that clinic for that reason. They asked him, 'Do you have any allergies?' Even though my husband replied, 'I don't know,' they directly gave him serum without any tests."
"I LEARNED HOW DANGEROUS YELLOW SERUM IS WITH A HEAVY HEART"
Gündoğan, who stated that his wife could not breathe 10 minutes after the serum was administered and that her heart subsequently stopped, said: "They could not intervene with my wife there. The staff were running around, even trying to open my wife's airways with a metal spoon, but it was insufficient. The friend who accompanied her immediately called 112. They took my wife to intensive care by ambulance. Unfortunately, it was too late when my wife was taken to the hospital. I received the news of my wife's death within 20 hours. I dressed my wife in a shroud instead of a pilgrimage garment. I learned how dangerous this yellow serum is with a heavy heart. My two children are now without a father; my wife's youth is gone."
"LIFE STOPPED IN OUR HOME"
The tearful woman Gündoğan expressed that life has virtually stopped for them after her husband's death, saying, "When we researched the clinic in question, we found out that two doctors were not involved with it, and one of the doctors was being prosecuted for changing a patient's blood test while working at the State Hospital last year. Therefore, his medical diploma is on hold. The other doctor who took my husband from life has a diploma, but I want the diploma of the doctor who took my husband from life to be suspended as well. Because I do not want the doctors who brought fire to my home to continue working at that clinic freely. We want the necessary actions to be taken as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the clinic is open and still serving people. It has been 15 days since my husband passed away, but they continue to make money as if nothing has happened. However, life has stopped in our home for the past 15 days; I believe that justice will be served."
It was reported that an investigation has been initiated by the Afyonkarahisar Provincial Health Directorate regarding the incident.
