Ahmet Davutoğlu, the leader of the Future Party, who was a guest on Haberler.com studio, stated, "If my phone rings in a moment and the esteemed President says 'come,' I would go. I would say I am always here if you want to discuss Turkey's issues. But if he says, 'stop opposing Kanal İstanbul,' I would respond, 'Mr. President, I opposed it even when I was Prime Minister. I say Kanal İstanbul is a crime.'"
The General Chairman of the Future Party, Ahmet Davutoğlu, was a guest of Olgun Kızıltepe, the News Director of Haberler.com, and presenter Melis Yaşar in the Haberler.com studio. In the program, Davutoğlu, who stated, "I have not broken away from the AK Party base," indicated that he would go to meet to discuss state matters if President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan invited him.
"I HAVE NOT BROKEN AWAY FROM THE AK PARTY BASE"
Ahmet Davutoğlu said, "If the President calls, I will go. However, what I mean is not that I would join there or start from where I left off as if nothing happened. What I mean is; if the President's office calls me for a consultation, of course, I would go for issues like Syria, Gaza, and Cyprus." Expressing that the AK Party has stolen two of its deputies in the face of his good-natured statements, Davutoğlu stated, "Still, I repeat the same thing. I have not broken away from the AK Party base."
"KANAL İSTANBUL IS A CRIME"
Davutoğlu expressed that he could meet with President Erdoğan to discuss state matters but stated that he would continue to oppose Kanal İstanbul the next day. Davutoğlu said, "If the President calls me tomorrow and says he wants to discuss state matters, I will consult. But the next day, I will continue to oppose Kanal İstanbul at the same time. Kanal İstanbul is a crime. This is my understanding of opposition and politics."
"IF MY PHONE RINGS AND THE PRESIDENT CALLS, I WILL GO"
In response to Olgun Kızıltepe's question, "What would your answer be if your phone rang and the President called you saying 'return to your home'?" Davutoğlu replied:
"I would say let's meet. The state of the country is important, not my return to any place. I have no request for any position. I would say I am always here if you want to discuss Turkey's issues. But if he says, 'Stop opposing Kanal İstanbul,' I would say, 'My dear President, I opposed it even when I was Prime Minister. I reported to you when I left. I would say Kanal İstanbul is a crime.' If the President requests a meeting, I would meet."
