The Gaziantep Regional Administrative Court rejected Ahmet Türk's request for a "stay of execution" against the decision to suspend him from the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality. The Ministry of Interior also extended the term of the trustee appointed in place of Türk.

Ahmet Türk, who serves as the Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, was temporarily suspended from his position by the Ministry of Interior on November 3, 2024. Türk had applied to the court for the annulment of this decision and the suspension of its execution. The Gaziantep Regional Administrative Court unanimously ruled to reject the request on December 25, 2025.

The court examined the file within the framework of the relevant articles of the Administrative Procedure Law No. 2577 and stated that the legal conditions for the request for suspension of execution were not met. The decision emphasized that the conditions stipulated in the second paragraph of Article 27 did not occur together.

THE TERM OF THE TRUSTEE HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY 2 MORE MONTHS

On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior extended the term of Tuncay Akkoyun, who was appointed as a trustee in place of Ahmet Türk, by 2 more months.

HE HAD CHALLENGED THE APPOINTMENT OF THE TRUSTEE

Ahmet Türk and his lawyers argued that the previous decision of the Mardin 1st Administrative Court regarding the "rejection of the case" was unlawful. The plaintiff claimed that the basis of the said action was an unfinalized conviction and requested the annulment of the decision and the suspension of its execution.

"YOU FAILED THE TEST OF SINCERITY ONCE AGAIN"

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir stated the following in a statement he made on social media regarding the issue:

"We had said, 'There can be no correct treatment with a wrong diagnosis.' In our commission report, we emphasized that 'the Kurdish issue is fundamentally a democracy and law issue.' As long as dual law continues and the votes of the electorate are deemed worthless; what kind of process or social peace can you talk about? With one hand, you gesture 'let's talk,' while with the other hand, you put a 'trustee' handcuff on the will of the people. The address of the solution is neither the dark corridors of the Palace nor the municipal buildings surrounded by police barriers. There is no way to proceed by suspending the law, detaining the elected officials, and insisting on this. This path is a dead end. You have once again failed the test of sincerity. Without ending the trustee regime, ensuring ballot security, and establishing justice, social peace efforts in Turkey cannot make progress."
