ANKARA (AA)- Air Algeria announced that it "lost contact" at night with its AH 5017 flight that left on Thursday from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, to Algiers, according to their recent statement Thursday.
The MD83 plane carrying 110 passengers and six crew members on board, was chartered to Spanish Swiftair. The company confirmed that the plane had never arrived its destination. The company, "ed by the APS agency, made the news public late Thursday morning.
The flight left Ouagadougou shortly after 1: 55 am (local time) and was expected to land at 5: 10 am (Algerian time) in the Algerian capital. The air navigation services identify their last contact with it, 50 minutes after takeoff.
According to the Weather Channel, the flight AH 5017 after takeoff crossed an area where many storms broke "with gusts of strong winds and high electrical activity."
Air Algeria has established an "emergency plan", but does not yet speak of a crash.
