Turkish champion Galatasaray suffered its biggest defeat in its ongoing European training camp on Tuesday, losing 4-0 to French outfit Nice in Slovenia and thereby setting off alarm bells.
After a goalless first half, France winger Hatem Ben Arfa converted a penalty in the 57th to give Nice a 1-0 lead. French midfielder Valentin Eysseric doubled the score in the 71st and Algerian striker Said Benrahma converted another penalty two minutes later (73rd) to make it 3-0. France attacking midfielder Neal Maupay scored Nice's fourth in the 80th to put the game beyond reach.
Galatasaray's steadfast inactivity during the current transfer window has left fans scratching their heads in disbelief. Rival Fenerbahçe is brimming with new stars, having acquired quality players here, there and everywhere. But Galatasaray remains same old, same old.
The humiliating defeat to Nice, without a doubt, will give champion-winning Lions coach Hamza Hamzaoğlu serious food for thought. Hamza must make hay while the sun shines for procrastination is the thief of time. (Cihan/Today’s Zaman)
