Algeria Claims To Kill 5 'Terrorists'

Algerian army forces have killed five militants in the country's northern Tizi Ouzou province, the Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday.



In a statement, the ministry said that a cache of weapons had also been seized in an army operation carried out in the province.



No further details were provided regarding the identity and affiliations of the slain militants.



Security experts say Algeria's northwestern provinces continue to host a number of Al-Qaeda-linked militants.



In recent months, Algeria has deployed thousands of troops along its borders with Libya, Mali, Niger and Tunisia with the stated aim of preventing infiltration by militants.
