Angry Sisi Calls For 'Tougher Laws' Day After Prosecutor's Death

30.06.2015 15:19

Egyptian prosecutor general Hisham Barakat was killed by a car bomb that struck his motorcade as it passed through an area of eastern Cairo.

A military funeral was held Tuesday for Egyptian prosecutor-general Hisham Barakat, who was killed in a car bombing in Cairo a day earlier.

President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and other high-profile officials attended the funeral amid tight security measures.

During the funeral, al-Sisi vowed tougher laws against militants following the attack.

"We're going to amend the law to allow us to implement justice as soon as possible," a visibly angry Sisi said.

Barakat was killed by a car bomb that struck his motorcade as it passed through an area of eastern Cairo.

He was the most senior Egyptian official to have been killed since the ouster of elected President Mohamed Morsi in a military coup in 2013.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Since Morsi's ouster, Egyptian authorities have carried out a relentless crackdown on dissent that has mainly targeted the ousted president's supporters, leaving hundreds dead and thousands behind bars. - Mısır
