Ankara Court Sentences 24 To Life For Killing Kurd Teen

24.04.2017 20:58

A court in Ankara convicted 24 out of 41 suspects and handed them down life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder of four people, including Kurdish teenager Yasin Boru in southeastern Turkey in 2014.

The 2nd Heavy Penal Court gave 16 out of the total convicts five aggravated life imprisonment sentences each.

Two others were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, while six other juveniles were also convicted in the case, who were given 110 years of jail time each.

The court said the harsh sentence had been handed down to the convicts for "killing by torture and with atrocious feelings" as well as "disrupting the unity and territorial integrity of the state".

On Oct. 5, 2014, 16-year-old Boru and his friends -- Ahmet Dakak, Riyat Gunes and Hasan Gokguz -- were chased down and lynched by alleged pro-PKK supporters on the second day of Eid al-Adha as they distributed food aid to Syrian refugees. The murderers had accused Boru and his friends of allegedly being Daesh members before killing them, according to the indictment. -
