Armenian armed forces have broken ceasefire with Azerbaijan 14 times in numerous positions in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said on Oct.23.

Armenian armed forces, located at the nameless heights of Armenia’s Ijevan district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located at the nameless heights in Gazakh district.

Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the position located near the villages of Ashagi Veyselli of Fizuli district, Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy, Yusifjanli of Aghdam and at the nameless heights of Fizuli, Goranboy and Khojavend districts.
The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions. (Cihan/Trend az)
