Australia's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced that her country will make a $20 million donation to help Syrian children in Jordan with their education.
"Around half of the 2.7 million Syrian refugees are children, and around 70 percent of these children are not attending school," Bishop said.
Addressing the media in the UN Refugee Agency's office in Jordan's capital, Amman, Bishop also said Australia will give citizenship to a thousand Syrian refugees located in Jordan.
Bishop added that Australia has provided over $130 million as humanitarian aid to the Syrian crisis since the conflict began in 2011.
The $20 million is to be split between the UN's High Commissioner for Refugees and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
