Australia Urges Its Citizen To Leave Israel, Occupied Palestinian Territories Amid Reports Of Israeli Strike

19.04.2024 10:27

In updated travel advisory, Foreign Ministry says security situation could deteriorate quickly.

Australia on Friday urged its citizens in "both Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories" to leave amid reports of an Israeli strike against Iran.

In an updated travel advisory, the country's Foreign Ministry said: "We urge Australians in both Israel or the Occupied Palestinian Territories to depart if it's safe to do so."

"Military attacks may result in airspace closures, flight cancellations and diversions and other travel disruptions. Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport may pause operations due to heightened security concerns at any time, and at short notice," it said.

The ministry warned that the security situation could deteriorate quickly, with little or no notice.

Israel carried out a strike inside Iran, according to the US and Iranian media, but none of the reports identified the targets.

The strike came in response to Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel over the weekend.

Anonymous US officials told CBS News and ABC News that Israel used ballistic missiles to hit Iran.

Iran's official state TV confirmed "massive explosions" in the central Isfahan province but noted that no nuclear facilities were affected or targeted. The semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that three drones were destroyed in the sky above Isfahan.

The Israeli military has not commented on the reported attack yet but said a security meeting is currently underway at Israel's Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv.
