At least 50 villages in Bangladesh were inundated when a flood barrier collapsed in northern Bangladesh.
The flooding from the Jamuna River basin, near northern town Bogra, will directly affect half a million people in surrounding villages, according to local officials from the Water Development Board.
They confirmed that water flow in the river basin is more than a meter above the danger level and is continuing to rise.
All cultivable fields south and west of Jamuna River, which flows from northeastern India, have been submerged by water.
Most villagers have had to leave their homes and take shelter in nearby highlands, schools and shelters. Some have stayed in their homes despite the flooding.
