Around 30 percent of eligible voters have cast their ballots in Benin's parliamentary election by Sunday afternoon, an electoral commission source said Sunday.
He told The Anadolu Agency that some 30 percent of eligible voters showed up at polling stations until 3pm on Sunday.
Around 4.4 million Beninese are eligible to vote in the election.
The voters have been flocking to polling stations since 6am to select 83 members for their country's parliament.
The authorities beefed up security around polling stations for the one-day election.
Sixteen electoral lists vey for seats in the country's legislature, according to the electoral commission.
The election comes at a time of high tension between the government and the opposition, which accuses the government of hampering municipal elections since 2013.
