A series of explosions on Wednesday rocked Khormaksar, a district of Yemen's southern Aden city near Aden International Airport.
Clashes, meanwhile, continued to rage on between loyalists of the Shiite Houthi militant group and embattled President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, eyewitnesses said.
The pro-Houthi militants stormed Khormaksar earlier on Wednesday and shelled some of the district's neighborhoods with tanks, the eyewitnesses said.
A security source, for his part, said the shelling had damaged a number of homes in the district.
According to the source, pro-Houthi troops tried to advance southward in the direction of a presidential palace in Crater district, where Hadi had been based before fleeing to Saudi Arabia.
It was not immediately clear whether the shelling of Khormaksar resulted in casualties.
For the past week, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have been pounding Houthi positions across Yemen.
Riyadh says the strikes are in response to appeals by Hadi to "save the [Yemeni] people from the Houthi militias."
Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when the Houthis overran capital Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.
Some Gulf countries accuse Shiite Iran of supporting Yemen's Houthi insurgency.
