Brotherhood Disputes 'İnternal İssue': Jordan Pm

03.03.2015 22:18

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said Tuesday that his government has nothing to do with internal disputes in the Muslim Brotherhood group.

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said Tuesday that his government has nothing to do with internal disputes in the Muslim Brotherhood group.

"It is no secret that there are disputes among Brotherhood members. These are internal matters that concern only them," Ensour said in response to a Jordanian MP.

"The government is not interested in this dispute," he added.

On Sunday, former Brotherhood guide general Abdel-Maguid Zunaibat said that the Jordanian government has agreed to legalize the Islamist movement.

The following day, a group of about 160 expelled Brotherhood members – led by Zunaibat – unveiled plans for what he described as a "transitional leadership" for the group.

But the Brotherhood leadership denounced the move, saying that the group has been registered since 1953, a claim dismissed by the government.

Rifts have emerged within Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood since 2014, when a number of senior group members joined an initiative with other Jordanian political forces without the permission of the Brotherhood leadership.

Dubbed "Zamzam," the ostensible aim of the initiative had been to reach consensus on a "national strategy" for political and social development based on a "moderate" interpretation of Islam.
