At least five people were killed on Tuesday when a car bomb went off near the presidential complex in Somali capital Mogadishu, a local official has said.
"So far, I can confirm the death of five people, including a woman and child. Four others were injured and rushed to hospital," government official Mohamed Osman told The Anadolu Agency by phone.
Internal Security Minister Abdirazak Omar condemned the attack, but stressed that the presidential palace was not in danger.
"Our troops secured the site within minutes and all the injured were taken to hospital. We condemn these futile attacks wholeheartedly," Omar said in a statement.
"The presidential palace was not attacked," he added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but the Al-Shabaab militant group usually claims responsibility for such attacks.
