It was claimed that dogs in a shelter in the Osmangazi district of Bursa were euthanized. While the images shared on social media drew reactions, the Osmangazi Municipality stated, "Personnel who did not act in accordance with procedures and directives have been dismissed. It will be up to the esteemed Turkish justice to determine what penalties those who carried out these actions will face."
Bursa Osmangazi Municipality made a statement regarding the allegations that dogs were killed, which were published on social media. The municipality stated that the images do not reflect the truth and announced that an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
ALLEGATION OF "DOGS BEING EUTHANIZED"
The footage taken at the animal shelter owned by the municipality in the Osmangazi district of Bursa was chilling. The images showed dogs lying motionless on the ground. It was claimed that the dogs in the shelter were euthanized.
STATEMENT FROM THE MUNICIPALITY
Following the spread of the images on social media, a statement was made by Osmangazi Municipality. Osmangazi Municipality expressed that the images in question and the approaches related to them do not reflect the management understanding of Osmangazi Municipality and its sensitivity towards all living beings.
“THE PURPOSE OF THE FOOTAGE HAS BEEN DETERMINED”
In the statement, it was noted that the administrative investigation regarding the matter has been completed, and the following was recorded: "As Osmangazi Municipality, personnel who did not act in accordance with procedures and directives have been dismissed, and the judicial process is ongoing. The purpose for which the individuals who recorded the footage carried out this action has been determined through our security cameras, and it has also been reported to the judicial authorities which individuals shared these images with social media and press organizations. After the completion of the investigation, the esteemed Turkish justice will decide what sanctions those who carried out these actions will face."
Meanwhile, animal lovers gathered in front of the shelter to protest the situation following the images published on social media. Police teams took security measures in front of the shelter.
