Coalition Planes Pound Houthi Position İn Yemen's Maarib

Saudi-led coalition warplanes on Saturday struck a Houthi position in Yemen's eastern Maarib province, eyewitnesses have said.



"Coalition planes bombed a Houthi site in Helan Mountains," an eyewitness told The Anadolu Agency.



Billows of smoke were seen rising from the area, according to witnesses.



No information is yet available about casualties.



The Helan Mountains are a strategic region for the Houthis as it overlooks areas controlled by forces loyal to embattled President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.



Yemen has remained in a state of turmoil since 2012.



Almost one month ago, Saudi Arabia and several other Arab states began an air campaign against Houthi positions across Yemen.



Saudi Arabia says the strikes come in response to Hadi's appeals for help against the Houthis, who overran capital Sanaa late last year and have since advanced on other provinces.



The Houthis, for their part, denounce the offensive as an unwarranted "Saudi-American onslaught" on Yemen.
