At the meeting with the attendance of United Nations (UN) Secretary General's Special Adviser for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide, leaders of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot communities Derviş Eroğlu and Nikos Anastasiadis decided to move the negotiations to the next phase and agreed on a joint text which will determine the sidelines of the process.
After the meeting which was held in UN office at the neutral zone in Nicosia, Eide read the joint statement on behalf of both sides. According the statements Greek and Turkish leaders agreed to accelerate the negotiations which aim the unification of the island by meeting twice a month.
Eide also said in his statement that, both leaders committed to lead the further negotiations in an interdependent result oriented manner through a win-win approach.
