Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) President Mustafa Akıncı met on Tuesday to resume peace talks in Cyprus after a month-long summer break.

The meeting which began at 9: 35 a.m. took place in the UN-controlled buffer zone. United Nations Special Adviser for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide held meetings with negotiators from each side before the meeting with Akıncı and Anastasiades.

Property is on the agenda of the meeting. The leaders are expected to speak at a joint press conference after the meeting. Meanwhile, Akıncı will receive Eide at 4 p.m.

Cyprus was split in 1974 following a Turkish intervention triggered by a Greek-inspired coup aiming to reunite the island with Greece. Peace talks resumed in May following moderate left-wing politician Akıncı's election as president of the KKTC in April.
