The creation of a joint venture car brand is expected to be at the top of the agenda at the Developing-8 meeting in Tehran, the group's secretary-general, Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, said on Monday.
Speaking before his flight to Iran for the meeting of Developing-8 industry ministers, Mousavi said that creating a joint car brand is not unrealistic as Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran and Turkey have significant collective potential.
"We expect commitment and will for a new brand to be underscored during this meeting," Mousavi said. "Turkey's determination and also the stance of Turkey's minister Fikri Isik over feasible joint projects encourage our hopes."
Fikri Isik is Turkey's current Minister of Science, Industry and Technology.
Stressing that economic and social developments are significantly affected by the state of industry, Mousai said Developing-8 member states should extend cooperation among themselves to strengthen their industries.
During the meeting, work groups from the member states will discuss ways to boost bilateral investments and technology transfers. The final declaration of the meeting will be signed by the attending ministers on Wednesday.
The Developing-8 is an organization which aims to develop cooperation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey and improve member states' visibility and status in the global economy.
