Djibouti Opens Airspace To Saudi-Led Offensive On Houthis

18.04.2015 13:48

Djibouti has opened airspace and territorial waters to a Saudi led operation against Yemen's Shiite Houthi group, Djiboutian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dya Eddin Bamakhrama said Saturday.

Djibouti has opened airspace and territorial waters to a Saudi-led operation against Yemen's Shiite Houthi group, Djiboutian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dya-Eddin Bamakhrama said Saturday.

Speaking to The Anadolu Agency by phone from Riyadh, Bamakhrama said Djibouti supports the Saudi-led operation by opening its airspace and territorial waters to military and relief operations.

Djibouti is ready to "perform its humanitarian and political duty of delivering needed aid to Yemen after it has opened its doors to displaced Yemenis," he said.

The Djiboutian diplomat called on the international community to "urgently provide aid to the Yemeni people, and to support Djibouti in this humanitarian crisis."

Last month, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have launched an air campaign against Houthi positions across Yemen.

Riyadh says the campaign is in response to appeals by embattled Yemeni President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi – who is currently in Riyadh – for military intervention against the Houthis.

The Houthis, for their part, have denounced the offensive as an unwarranted "Saudi-American onslaught" against Yemen.

Some Gulf States accuse Shiite Iran of supporting Yemen's Houthi insurgency.
