An Egyptian court has adjourned to April 30 hearings into a lawsuit calling on the Egyptian government to label Qatar a "state sponsor of terrorism," a judicial source said Wednesday.
Lawyer Samir Sabri, who has filed a string of lawsuits targeting ousted president Mohamed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood group and Qatar's Al Jazeera news channel, filed the lawsuit, which accuses Doha of providing a safe haven to "terrorists" and refusing to extradite them to Egypt.
In an earlier lawsuit, Sabri accused Al Jazeera's Mubasher Misr news channel – which is devoted entirely to Egypt coverage – of "supporting terrorism."
Egypt's military-backed government has repeatedly accused Al Jazeera of harboring bias in favor of the ousted president and his supporters – allegations the network rejects.
Relations between Cairo and Doha have soured dramatically since the army ousted Morsi – Egypt's first freely elected leader – on the back of demonstrations last year against his presidency.
Following Morsi's ouster and subsequent imprisonment, a number of his supporters fled to Qatar amid a heavy-handed crackdown on dissent by Egypt's army-backed interim authorities.
