Egypt Extends Emergency İn Some Areas İn Sinai

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday extended for additional three months the state of emergency in some areas in the Sinai Peninsula, northeastern Egypt.



This is the third extension of the state of emergency in the parched peninsula.



The state of emergency includes the cities of al-Arish, Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah, according to a presidential statement.



It added that the state of emergency also includes a curfew in the three cities.



For almost two years, Egyptian authorities have tried to crack down on militants in the restive Sinai Peninsula, which shares borders with both Israel and the blockaded Gaza Strip.



The campaign comes amid a spike in attacks on security personnel since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi by the army in mid-2013.
