Egyptian interim Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab left Cairo for Chad on Thursday for a tour of Africa that will also take him to Tanzania – his first trip abroad since his appointment to the premiership in March.
"Mahlab's Africa tour has an important political aspect," Egyptian Ambassador to Chad Mahmoud Saad told Anadolu Agency.
"Egypt is pursuing an effective role in the central African region," he said.
During his one-day visit to Chad, Mahlab will discuss bilateral cooperation with Chadian officials and sign agreements in the fields of agriculture and petroleum.
Mahlab will also inspect a number of projects being carried out by Egyptian companies in Chad and Tanzania, according to an Egyptian cabinet source.
