Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Monday congratulated Tunisian politician Beji Caid Essebsi on his victory in Tunisia's presidential election.
Essebsi, the leader of the centrist Nidaa Tounes party, was declared winner of Tunisia's presidential runoff poll with 55.68 percent of the vote.
Tunisia's election commission said that Essebsi's rival, incumbent Interim President Moncef Marzouki, had won 44.32 percent of the vote in Sunday's poll.
The Egyptian presidency said in a statement that Essebsi's electoral victory "reflects the great confidence given to him by the Tunisian people."
Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt's support for Tunisia and Egypt's desire to bolster bilateral relations, the statement read.
Tunisia's presidential election was the first to be held since the ouster of autocratic President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in a popular uprising in 2011.
