The main support bloc of ousted president Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday called for a fresh week of demonstrations against Egypt's military-backed government.
The pro-Morsi National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy called for a week of fresh protests starting on Friday under the banner, "Bring down the regime."
"Prepare for an uprising by the Egyptian people to demand that the army return to the barracks," read a statement issued by the alliance.
Composed of Islamist parties and pro-democracy groups, the alliance also called on Egyptian university students to maintain their anti-government protests on university campuses, which have remained ongoing since the new academic year began on October 11.
The pro-Morsi alliance has continued to organize frequent rallies to protest last year's ouster of Mohamed Morsi – Egypt's first freely elected president – by the army.
Former army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, widely seen as the architect of Morsi's ouster and subsequent imprisonment, was declared the winner of May presidential polls.
