Ekrem Dumanlı, Editor-in-chief of Turkey’s largest daily of Zaman, was detained four days ago within the scope of government-backed raids against critical media and released on Friday, stated on the way out the courthouse that ‘Turkey watches a theatre as the operations kicked off’.
After being released, Dumanlı addressed a speech to the huge crowd that gathered in front of the courthouse in Çağlayan neighborhood of Istanbul’s Şişli district.
“Trying to sweep under the carpet their own faults, sins, briberies, trying to create more sensational event government orchestrated bring shame on Turkey and launched an operation against Zaman newspaper and Samanyolu TV. They raided the building of a newspaper. They didn’t hold off from detaining the editor-in-chief of a newspaper. They have arrested the Head of a well-known TV channel. Their purpose is obvious. The target of perception management operation is clear. Trying to whitewash their own disgraces, they are sacrificing innocent people. Turkey badly got hurt prom this period” Dumanlı added.
