Emine Erdoğan, the wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, visited the Presidential National Library with Charlotte Merz, the wife of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who is on an official visit to Turkey.
THEY REVIEWED THE WORKS
Emine Erdoğan warmly welcomed Charlotte Merz at the entrance of the library. The first ladies moved to the Cihannüma Hall of the library and examined the works in the German Library. Emine Erdoğan gifted Merz the German edition of Mevlana's 'Masnavi' and the promotional book 'Turkey' prepared by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications.
THEY MET WITH CHILDREN IN THE LIBRARY
Emine Erdoğan and Charlotte Merz moved to the Nasreddin Hoca Children's Library and met with children participating in various activities there. The first ladies examined the simple electrical circuit projects and planet-shaped night lamp designs created by the children as part of their 'coding' lesson, and chatted with them about their activities. They also reviewed the planets and Earth's layers made by the children from play dough. The children gifted Emine Erdoğan and Charlotte Merz their artwork showing the surface of the moon.
THEY VISITED THE 'GOLDEN AGE OF ARCHAEOLOGY EXHIBITION'
The first ladies later visited the 'Golden Age of Archaeology Exhibition', which features artifacts from the 'Heritage for the Future' excavations, the most comprehensive archaeology project in the history of the Republic. They were particularly interested in the exhibition, which includes the bronze statue of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, smuggled abroad during illegal excavations in the Boubon Ancient City in Burdur in the 1960s and returned to Turkey after 65 years, dating back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. Emine Erdoğan and Charlotte Merz received information about the artifacts. After the library visit, the first ladies moved to the State Guesthouse for a bilateral meeting.
"I WAS PLEASED TO INTRODUCE SELECT COLLECTIONS"
In a social media post regarding her visit to the National Library with Charlotte Merz, Emine Erdoğan stated, "We came together at our Presidential National Library with the esteemed wife of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mrs. Charlotte Merz, who is on an official visit to our country. I was pleased to introduce rare works, manuscripts, and select collections that reflect the scientific and cultural heritage of our civilization. In the German Library section, we examined resources that reflect Germany's historical and literary heritage together."
