Erdoğan Is Scheduled To Visit KKTC And Azerbaijan As President

President-elect and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who won the presidential election in Turkey on Aug. 10, will pay his first official visit abroad to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) in September. According to Prime Ministry sources, after his planned one-day visit to KKTC on Sept. 1, Erdoğan will be visiting Azerbaijan on Sept. 3. This visit is expected to be a one-day visit also. KKTC President Derviş Eroğlu and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev were the first leaders to congratulate Erdoğan and wish him well following Erdoğan's election win with 51.8 percent of the popular votes. Erdoğan will have his inauguration ceremony on Aug. 28. The ceremony is planned to be “one of a kind,” with the attendance of many foreign heads of state.

The list of the invited heads of states has not been shared with the press, nor has the list of who plans to attend. An official from the Foreign Ministry who wished to remain anonymous told Today's Zaman that “in principle” they cannot share the list with the press.

Following his KKTC and Azerbaijan visits, Erdoğan is expected to attend a NATO summit in Wales. Wales will host the NATO summit this year on Sept. 4-5. It will be Erdoğan's first international summit as president.

According to the Prime Ministry sources, Erdoğan will be visiting the United States as well. He will be attending the United Nations summit in New York on Sept. 21-26.
